Update Oct 22Respected Mobster

TBGS

Text Based Game Script

TBGS is the engine under Mobster Story: the accounts, the clock, the economy and the tools that keep a text based game fair. The streets, the jobs and the guns are the game; everything that makes them work is the script.

Lazy simulation

Markets, heat, crops and vitals move only when someone looks. Every hour of a street market is worked out when it's first needed, from secure randomness, so nothing runs on a timer and nobody can see the future.

Money that can't duplicate

Every action locks the rows it touches, in a fixed order, inside one transaction. Two clicks at once, two tabs, two players: the money moves once.

Balanced by simulation

Fighting classes, drug running and land each have a simulation that plays out thousands of fights, trips and harvests before a number changes, and a test suite checks every rule before an update ships.

Content, not code

Districts, crimes, items, achievements and release notes live in plain lists. New achievements and release notes go live on the next start, and staff add items from the panel.

Staff tools built in

Player lookup, linked accounts, supply and events, an audit log of every staff change, game settings and a changelog.

One zip to deploy

Upload a single file to ordinary shared hosting and restart. The database upgrades itself on start.
